Innovative Idea: Keep Your Linens Together

this entry has 0 Comments/ in Clothes and Closet Organizing, Innovative Idea, Residential Organizing, Time Management and Productivity / by Innovatively Organized
February 24, 2012
In the shuffle of doing laundry−cleaning, folding, and storing−some sets and pairs get separated.  For instance, linens never seem to stick together.  So when it’s time to change your sheets, you end up searching through your closet and laundry room for 15 or 20 minutes looking for that last matching pillowcase or fitted sheet.  This idea is not only innovative, but guaranteed to keep your linens organized.  Match and fold entire linen sets, then store them inside one of the set’s pillowcases.  This way, everything stays together and you can easily identify sheet sets.  A little time saved does a lot of de-stressing!

What are your thoughts?  Do you have a different system for organizing your linens?

Challenge:
The challenge with this project was a large quantity of holiday decorations that needed to fit efficiently into a very tight storage space.  When we arrived at the client’s home, we discovered that after the last holiday, many holiday decorations had been living on the stair landing next to a storage nook.  The family had storage containers, but they were not the right size or shape, which made storing the decorations difficult. We noticed that shelving units were lacking from the space, which meant that if the client needed to access something on the bottom, every container in front and on top of it needed to come out first.
Solution:
We sorted and purged the decorations into categories, took detailed inventory of the decorations and quantities, and measured the space and items to be stored. From there, we designed an efficient layout for the space incorporating proper shelving and containers that would maximize the storage capacity.

Result:
The result is a remarkable holiday storage space that is easy to use!  Because the shelving and containers are consistent, and the items used most frequently are in the appropriate locations, finding exactly what the client needs is much easier!  We have given the client a map of the space so that if another family member needs to access a specific bin, they will know exactly where the bin is located. The holiday storage space is so much more functional!

Before and After of the Week

Challenge:
This couple moved into their condo just a few weeks before they called us to come in.  They were moving from one condo to another, but wanted us to design the closet space to be organized and functional before they moved in all their clothes.  During the consultation, we took measurements of their space, took inventory of their clothes, and discussed what their goals were for this new space.

Solution:
We designed a custom closet solution to fit all of their specific needs.  We took into account each of their personal interests and designed a solution that incorporated this gear, along with their everyday work and casual clothes.  We also gave them space to store their out of season clothes, such as winter and summer.

Result:
They now have a closet that is functional and beautiful.  The closet looks great and we know that they will enjoy it for years to come!

Before and After of the Week

Challenge:
Our client moved into this space approximately two weeks before we started working with her.  She is a very busy professional who knew that becoming organized is important, but didn’t have the time or direction to do so herself.  Her bedroom and closet were filled with items she had brought with her from past living spaces.  She had too much furniture in her bedroom and the wrong types of furniture to suite the space.  She also had very little organization to her closet. Clothes had been tossed in without any real rhyme or reason. Also, she had an office downstairs that had no organizational systems in place, which made working productively nearly impossible

Solution:
We spent one Saturday sorting and purging all the items in both her bedroom and office.  We took inventory of everything in those spaces and created space plans to better organize them.  In creating those space plans, we took into consideration that our client is a busy professional and didn’t want a high maintenance solution.  We also kept her budget in mind and provided her suggestions that would accommodate.

Result:
She now has a very functional and organized bedroom and closet.  Everything in her space has a home and everything is easy to reach and put away.  After removing several pieces of furniture, she can now move freely through the space without tripping over or running into furniture.  In addition, her office now has some personality and functionality.  Overall, our client can now be much more productive in her home.

One Woman’s Clutter is Another Woman’s Treasure!

So you’ve got all these purses in your closet (or scattered around your house!) that you just don’t know what to do with… The moment you no longer love a purse, it becomes clutter.  There is no good way to store the various shapes and sizes, so purses easily stack up.  Here’s an idea: swap your purse for a gorgeous new bag that you’ll actually use!

Purses of Interest is a purse swap fundraiser to benefit Rise n’ Shine.  The event is next Thursday, October 6th at 6 pm at PNK Ultra Lounge in Pacific Place.  You can register online for $20 before October 1st or for $25 after.

Upon arrival, you will be checked in and given a ticket in exchange for your gently used purse (cough- clutter).  For the purse swap portion, numbers will be drawn at random to invite guests to pick out their new purse.  And the best part- all purses include goodies, discounts, or gift certificates hidden inside!  Not only will you be getting rid of “extra baggage” in your home, you’ll be returning with an awesome new bag already filled with goodies!

There will also be a small silent auction for wines, chocolates, a boat tour, a L’Occitane gift box, and gift certificates to local Seattle Restaurants!  All of the evening’s proceeds go in support of Rise n’ Shine, which supports children and teens affected by HIV/AIDS.

Bring all of your friends- especially the ones with purses you envy!  You can also check out their Facebook event to learn more!

Challenge:
The bedroom of a young boy was not functioning for his current needs or his growing needs.  Although he enjoyed sleeping in a tent, he really did need a bedroom that supported the storage of his clothes, toys, and extra linens.

Solution:
We designed a custom closet system that is a storage place for clothes, toys, and extra linens.  We also addressed the organizational and design issues for designing a closet for a child, which included adapting the space to be functional for his height.

Result:
Now the closet is a perfect, functional, and aesthetically pleasing space for a young child to get ready every morning.  Both the client and his son love the room!
