Want to Increase Engagement? Ask Questions

this entry has 0 Comments/ in Fun, Guest Blog / by Innovatively Organized
May 16, 2012
During our social media webinars, people often ask how they can increase engagement through social media.  While we can help people save time with their social media efforts, we are not the marketing experts.  So, we turned to Kristin Heffley at Caffeinated Communications Studio to provide us with a few tips.

Writing a social media post that will generate comments, likes, and replies takes practice.  It can be frustrating when you feel as if no one is reading your posts.  As you figure out what works best for your audience, one of the easiest techniques to encourage conversation is to simply ask questions.

When writing a question, keep it simple, clear, and easy to answer.  The point is to invite your audience to join the conversation, not to confuse them.  Here are five types of questions that can increase engagement:

1.  Ask yes/no or true/false questions
Readers are more likely to respond to questions that require less thought and shorter answers. Begin these questions with “Yes or No”/“True or False” so your readers can quickly understand that one word is all that is required.

2.  Ask poll questions
Facebook’s Question feature is a great way to poll your readers.  Options for answers can be easily and quickly selected.  You can either input options or your readers can add their own.

3.  Ask fill-in-the-blank questions
Fill-in-the-blank questions can produce some creative and fun answers.  Begin these questions with “Fill in the blank” so fans know what to expect.

4.  Ask for tips
Social media enthusiasts love to share their personal experiences and insights.  This form of question can nurture a sense of community among your followers through their shared experiences and advice.

5.  Ask fun questions
Asking off topic questions isn’t always a bad thing.  These questions create a human connection with your brand.  Something as simple as asking about weekend plans or favorite vacation spots can generate a lot of activity.

Once your post receives a response, acknowledge someone when they answer.  You can “like” or retweet their response or even better, comment back to deepen the conversation.  If someone asks you a question, be sure to respond.

5 Things You Never Knew Could Improve Productivity

this entry has 0 Comments/ in Fun / by Innovatively Organized
April 1, 2012

When you hear the word “productivity,” do you picture someone working really hard at a desk, completing tasks and logging hours?  This is certainly a form of productivity, but there are so many misconceptions about the limits of being productive.  You’d be surprised how many other ways you can improve productivity and efficiency throughout your day!

  1. Sing in the shower.  As we all know, singing puts us in a better mood.  By singing some tunes in the shower, you improve your mood which allows you to enthusiastically tackle your day.
  2. Own a dog.  The busier you are, the more likely you are to use better time management.  If you have to take care of a dog – take it out for a walk, shower and feed it – you will make sure to complete all of your own tasks in time so you do not neglect Bowser.
  3. Stop drinking caffeine.  Everyone thinks drinking a morning cup o’ joe will help wake them up and kick start their day.  Living in Seattle, we understand the caffeine kick.  But actually, you become completely dependent on caffeine so much so that it is more a mentality.  You can actually accomplish all of your to-do’s without stopping by the café first!  This will save you time and money, as well.
  4. Always keep your phone within eyesight.  By laying your phone next to you while you work – or nearby while you drive, sleep and eat – you will be notified immediately of every new development or question from others.  If you are working on a project and your colleague emails you a change in the plans, you will immediately alter your work and thus, not have to go back and undo work.  Similarly, if you are driving to pick the kids up from practice and see your spouse’s text immediately saying soccer practice was cancelled, you won’t waste time going to the field!
  5. Spend at least 45 minutes each day reading blogs.  Learning from other interesting blogs – whether they be food recipes, organization tips, DIY crafts, or business strategies – will help keep you inspired and motivated.  Seeing others produce great work inspires you to always work hard and push yourself more.
Try these unknown tips today and watch your productivity soar!  Let us know which ones are your favorites!

PS. Happy April Fool’s Day!

We absolutely love this website!  You know when you can’t find your phone because it’s hidden under a blanket or fell under the seat?  And you ask your friend to call it for you?  Well, in case this happens to you when you don’t have a friend nearby to help out, go to I Can’t Find My Phone.  Assuming your phone is not on silent and you have a computer close to you, this website is guaranteed to help you out!  Simply enter your phone number and it calls you for free.  And when you finally find your phone and answer the call, the machine leaves a kind message, wishing you a good day!  We almost want to misplace our phone now, just so we can use this ingenious tool!

IO Annual Summer Party

Almost our whole team gathered last Saturday at Eastlake Bar & Grill to celebrate another year with Innovatively Organized.  Our Second Annual Summer Party was full of great people, amazing Seattle weather, and delicious food (hummus and pita bread, calamari, flourless chocolate cake!).  We had almost as many accountants in attendance as we did professional organizers, plus a handful of Virginia Tech Hokies.
It was a great night spent celebrating our company growth and successes this past year.  We are so thankful for our hardworking, enthusiastic team- including our organizers, technology coordinator, intern, marketing consultant, graphic designer, and handy-man.  And we cannot wait for another year of organizing!

For more photos of our summer party, you can check out our Facebook album!

Thought: Hoarding Hubby

Celebs- they’re just like us, including our tendencies to clutter the home!  Famous country singer Carrie Underwood appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show last April.  While discussing her new marriage to pro hockey player Mike Fisher, Underwood let slip that her husband is sort of a hoarder!

Underwood explained, “He has stuff come in and I’m like, ‘This is not going out fast enough. If you bring stuff in, stuff needs to go out. Do we need this shirt? It’s got a giant stain on the sleeve. Are we gonna wear this again?’”

These are the same logical questions that we try to ask ourselves when purging our closets, garages, offices, and homes.  Do I really need five staplers?  Am I actually going to wear this old shirt again?

We were surprised that Underwood confessed her husband’s hoarding secret, but we’re also glad that she did!  It’s important to remember that we all struggle with bringing too much clutter into the home.  Just try to remember logical questioning when deciding what should leave the house.

Do you have a disorganized spouse or roommate?  What are your strategies to sharing space (and clutter)?

Quick Tips

For large, time-consuming tasks, break them down into smaller sub-tasks and spread them out over the day or week.
Create a set of email policies for your small business so everyone’s on the same page when it comes to writing and sending emails.
Start prioritizing your tasks to ensure you spend your time and energy doing what is important.
Share part of your inbox with your assistant so you can efficiently delegate email responses to your assistant.
When organizing your paper files, avoid labels like “miscellaneous” and “random.”  You’ll encounter difficulties finding them later.
