Green Organizing - Donating Cans of Paint

“Where can I donate an open can of paint?” This is a question we hear all the time when helping clients clear out garages and basements during an organizing session. There’s the usual list of resources like Craigslist and Freecycle, but I recently discovered a new one dedicated to sharing and selling items left over from home improvement projects called DiggersList. (http://seattle.diggerslist.com/)  You can buy and sell everything from appliances, tiles, doors, tools and lawn equipment. This is a great way to recycle your old hardware clutter and be a green organizer!

Planning and Organizing the Ultimate Garage Space

If you’ve always dreamed of having the ultimate garage to store everything from tools and sports equipment to seasonal items and gardening accessories and still have room for your car, then check out Garage Gladiator. This complete garage organization system has been designed for “the unique environment and demands of the garage.”

Garage Gladiator lets you customize your garage with a variety of organizational and functional components made from top quality materials, including heavy gauge steel, solid hard maple wood, ball bearing slides, and powder coat paint finishing.  You can even create workspaces so you can turn the garage into a hobby space, play area, and DIY work space!

Keeping the garage organized benefits the whole family and even increases the living and work spaces in your home.

A Better Way to Label Those Bins

Using plastic bins, baskets or boxes is a great way to corral loose items or store seasonal decor.  Anything that needs to be put away in a closet, under the bed or in the garage should be kept in a sturdy and well-labeled container so you don’t end up going through boxes and boxes when searching for something specific.  These self-adhesive office labels are technically meant to identify folders and binders, but their efficient pocket system is perfect for your plastic totes and bins!

Just attach and slip in a card stating the contents, name, date, expiration, etc.  When the contents change, simply turn the card over or insert a new card - you can even use photographs to show what’s inside.

Quick Tips

Elizabeth got right down to the critical changes we needed to make to improve our work flow. And we had fun doing it!Sheree C., Paralegal, Office Max
When organizing your paper files, avoid labels like “miscellaneous” and “random.”  You’ll encounter difficulties finding them later.
If you work from your car, set it up as a functional office with storage and office supplies like a desk.
Make sure to sync your devices regularly so your information is always accurate and doesn’t contain duplicates.
Try setting time limits for tasks that easily eat away your day, like responding to email or checking Facebook.
Start prioritizing your tasks to ensure you spend your time and energy doing what is important.
Just because your email comes to your phone, you don’t need to respond immediately. Schedule specific times to check email.
Create a system for processing business cards you receive. Try delegating the data entry portion of the task to an assistant or intern.
You definitely demonstrated what you do best – being organized! It was very apparent that you’ve gone through training and certification and truly know your business.Jeanette H., BPW
